Main Theoretical Points

Emotions have an enormous influence on the process of learning. Emotions are complicated states that are represented not only in our intentions but also in the activity of our brain systems. Feelings can be relatively generic states such as happiness or sadness... when connected with an action or an object, the emotions become effective sources of motivation. Emotions engage the learner and can influence the quality and quantity of the learning, including negative influences through overstimulation or extreme distress and anxiety (MacKeracher, 2004).

To understand how emotion affects learning we must know the Arousal Theory. There are three things that affect how motivated a person is: internal states (such as needs); potential outcomes; and the individual’s estimate of the probability that a behavior will lead to a desired outcome.

Expectancy Theory is one of the most important theories in motivation, people work harder when they believe the added effort will help them achieve a goal and be rewarded.

Also, there is a clever theory which is Self-regulation. Self-regulation is the process by which the person monitors and controls his cognition, motivation, and behavior to achieve certain goals, and in this method, the learners can manage and organize their thoughts and convert them into skills used for learning

Application

Motivation, social emotional learning, and self-regulation are all important emotional factors that influence learning processes and information processing in learning. I will explain each of them with an application.

Motivation:

Motivation has a powerful influence on our behavior and specifically on almost every aspect of the learning process, judgment, decision making, and cognitive processes.

When we discuss emotions and learn, we must know that there are sometimes barriers linked with our behavior, which we unwittingly do, and these things affect our learning and lead us to fail. As adult educators, we expect the learner to be able to learn with some guidance and sup, but sometimes learning is hampered by things that cause behaviors that the learner cannot control, such as excessive mobile phone use (mobile phone or social media addiction), which causes university students and other Learners to waste their wealthy time. Here I will use motivation to reduce smartphone use.

Recognizing the value in limiting phone use is a critical part of developing and supporting "intrinsic motivation to make a change," said Dr. Smita Das, the chair of the American Psychiatric Association's Council on Addiction Psychiatry and a clinical associate professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Stanford University.

  • In the car, your life is more important than your mobile phone.

  • At school, university, your studies, and your future are more important than your mobile phone.

  • At home, your family is more important than social media.

Social and Emotional Learning:

Social Emotional Learning is an educational method designed to enhance social and emotional skills within the curriculum. SEL for Adults: Self-Awareness and Self-Management.

By emphasizing self-care, creating wholesome connections, and learning techniques for better stress and emotion management, adults can develop social-emotional skills.

In these crucial points, adults learn how to manage the social and emotional aspects of their lives:

-Recognizing, addressing, and controlling emotions.
-Establishing values and their purpose Acquiring self-assurance that does not touch on the conceit.
-Having organized thought processes Gaining a thorough understanding of their advantages and disadvantages.
-Developing and strengthening self-control Taking on the problems of life.
-Fostering wholesome relationships.

Teachers are impacted by stress. Because of engaging in high-pressure work, including dealing with leadership, students, parents, and their families. Low job satisfaction could result from this, which would then affect students' academic performance. Teachers can manage the stress and frustration they experience by implementing SEL. As I am a teachers' trainer, I can help them in my training programs.
-For teachers and parents, we may run programs at local schools or nonprofits.

-We can introduce wellness and self-care programs for teachers during professional development meetings or at the training facility.

-We can find out how the leadership supports teachers by finding solutions to avoid or reduce stress.

-Make time to talk with other because, like children, adults too need a place to express their feelings.

Self-regulated learning:

Self-regulation is self-management and personal skills that makeup Emotional Intelligence. Self-regulation is concerned with how you control and manage yourself and your emotions, inner resources, and abilities. It also includes your ability to manage your response when faced with strong emotions. It is also thought that self-regulation involves feedback loops by which we evaluate how well our behavior is helping us reach our personal goals.

-In learning the learners take responsibility for their learning and control the behaviors that lead to learning.

Self-regulated learning describes learning where individuals assume responsibility for planning and directing their own learning:

(1) learners set their own goals.

(2) they select and apply strategies to reach these goals.

(3) they constantly evaluate and change strategies in response to feedback telling them How successful the strategies are in leading them toward intended goals

The goal is Reduce social media and games, phone addiction.

Goals Set:

Use your free time to do useful things.

Actual social relationships.

improving grades in college.

  Self-Control:

Do more activities (sports, reading books, meditation, yoga).

Get close to family members, listen to them, and talk to them

Increasing the study time. Scheduling time for the Learning center every couple days. Communicate with teachers to overcome difficulties.

Self-Evaluation:

How many activities did you do today? Measuring weight/fat loss.

Have you sat and talked with your family members today? Did you help anyone?

Do my grades go up? Feedback from the teacher!

Assignments may help us support self-regulation because it develops these same skills or we can develop a new skill by learning a new language or new thing.

''Self-regulated learning (SRL) is a core conceptual framework to understand the cognitive, motivational, and emotional aspects of learning. SRL has made a major contribution to educational psychology since the first papers in which scholars began to distinguish between SRL and metacognition (e.g., Zimmerman, 1986; Pintrich et al., 1993a)'' Panadero E.(2017)

We can understand that learners use self-regulated learning strategies, which are mastery tools, to monitor their own learning and development. Additionally, learners with high SRL abilities are able to manage their own learning through planning, observation, and the use of cognitive strategies.

Highlights

Finally, our emotions are the way in which we understand and respond to the world around us. We can say that in addition to teaching students some learning strategies, it is worth teaching them to monitor and regulate their emotions to best learn and reflect (evaluating the effectiveness of techniques to find whether they need to be changed).

Organizing time, good sleep, sports, healthy food, yoga, balanced social relations, and staying away as much as possible from useless devices and unhealthy habits, all of which play a decisive role in controlling emotions and preventing anxiety and stress.

Process

We must know the effects of some learning strategies on motivation. Some instructional strategies will enhance motivation, but not for all types of learners. Different learners may prefer different strategies because of their learning experiences from the past.

It is necessary for teachers to intervene after mid- or long-term learning activities to correct students learning and give them feedback about their learning strategies.

Teachers can give learners the kinds of experiences that lead to good self-efficacy evaluations. Teachers can also play a significant role in setting student goals and gaining strength in how students value different possibilities and the techniques that may be necessary to help them to achieve these goals.

Summary of How to Apply Theories

Motivation

To remove your understanding, to learn more about the concept, to investigate it as deeply as possible, to strengthen your independence or efficiency, to improve how you do things.

Social Emotional Learning

For Teachers and other adult learners:

  • Pick creative approaches to motivate them to give self-care priority.
  • Provide professional self-development workshops and training sessions that emphasize adult self-care.
  • Offer activities team-building activities.
  • Make time or space for wellness and fitness, like areas for teachers to practice yoga or meditate.
  • Start meetings with a few minutes of meditation.
  • Find resources to help teachers cope with stress.
  • Offer discounted subscriptions at various gyms.

Self-regulated learning

-The first step is setting goals, Planning strategies for the study, motivation, self-confidence, and outcome expectations.

-The second step is performance, self-control, self-instruction, attention focusing.

-The third step is self-reflection, self-judgment, self-evaluation, and self-reaction
